Malate, bisglycinate and taurate in every capsule: three forms of magnesium, a measured 200 mg a day
OptioVires Magnesium from Optiolex, a brand from Austria, brings together magnesium malate, magnesium bisglycinate and magnesium taurate in a vegan capsule. Two capsules a day provide 200 mg of magnesium.
Many magnesium products deliver 400 mg or more in a single effervescent tablet. More in one go is not necessarily better, though: at higher amounts the gut tends to react, and a fizzy tablet does not fit every routine.
OptioVires takes a moderate approach, split across two capsules swallowed with water. The three compounds differ in their partner: malate is the salt of malic acid, bisglycinate is bound to the amino acid glycine, and taurate to taurine, an amino sulfonic acid.
EFSA has set 250 mg a day as the upper limit for magnesium from food supplements, as higher amounts can cause loose stools in some people. At 200 mg, OptioVires stays below it and leaves room for magnesium from mineral water and food. Optiolex has it manufactured according to GMP guidelines.
