Question about item
One ingredient in the pouch, and it happens to taste sweet
nutri+ Glycine Powder is the amino acid glycine and nothing else. You get what collagen and bone broth are richest in, without the animal source and without twenty other amino acids along for the ride.
Glycine turns up on plenty of shopping lists without being named. It is the reason people simmer bones for hours, stir gelatine into their morning drink or buy large tubs of collagen peptides. Each route delivers a whole protein, and none of them works on a plant-based diet.
Why is collagen so rich in it? In the collagen chain, glycine occupies every third position. As the smallest amino acid (its side chain is a single hydrogen atom), it is the only one that fits inside the tight triple helix that collagen fibres form. Your body also makes glycine itself, for instance from the amino acid serine. This powder supplies it as a free, single amino acid that dissolves readily in water, so an ordinary glass and a spoon are all you need.
Take 1 slightly heaped measuring spoon of powder (5 g) dissolved in approx. 200 ml of liquid daily.

💬 Frequently asked questions
-
How much collagen powder would give me the same amount of glycine?+Glycine accounts for roughly a fifth to a quarter of the weight of collagen peptides. So the 5 g in one scoop corresponds to around 20 to 25 g of collagen powder. Collagen also brings proline, hydroxyproline and other amino acids; this pouch contains glycine only.
-
Does it have to be water, or can I stir it into tea or a smoothie?+The recommendation simply says approx. 200 ml of liquid, so the choice is yours. Expect a gentle sweetness in whatever you mix it into. It is not meant as a baking sweetener, though: it is a food supplement with a fixed daily serving of 5 g.
-
Gelatine is full of glycine. So how can this be vegan?+A glycine molecule is identical whatever its origin. Glycine for food supplements does not have to be extracted from skin or bone, and the glycine in this pouch comes from no animal raw material. nutri+ labels the powder 100% vegan.
-
I keep reading about "GlyNAC". Is this the same thing?+No. GlyNAC is the research name for glycine combined with N-acetylcysteine (NAC), studied mainly by a group at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Those are small clinical trials, and no health claim for food supplements follows from them. This powder contains glycine alone.
-
How much glycine does an ordinary diet provide?+Estimates in the scientific literature put it at roughly 1.5 to 3 g a day, depending on how much protein you eat. Foods rich in connective tissue, such as pork rind, chicken skin and bone broth, supply far more than lean muscle meat. Plant proteins contain smaller shares.
