Question about item
The good honey always runs out first? Not with this jar.
The 1 kg jar of Real Styrian Forest Honey – the largest size from Danja Erber's small apiary in West Styria.
Many households know the two-jar policy: one "good" honey for the weekend, next to it an everyday honey from the shelf. The good one gets portioned out, almost hoarded – even though it is exactly the one you want to eat every day.
The kilo jar puts an end to that portioning. It holds the same dark forest honey as the small jars, from the same limited harvest – simply in the apiary's largest size. In the kitchen, that means sweetening, glazing and baking generously without constantly buying refills.
What makes this possible is an apiary that has deliberately stayed small. Danja Erber handles every task of the beekeeping year herself and jars the honey where it is made – in Wies. Her colonies live in a spacious herb and flower garden and in an idyllic patch of woodland, the source of the forest flow.
For sweetening tea and dishes, for baking and cooking, as a spread or straight from the spoon.

Where does forest honey get its dark colour from?
From its raw material. Honeydew is processed tree sap and carries considerably more minerals and trace elements than pale blossom nectar. These components tint the honey – from warm amber through reddish brown to almost black tones. The shade varies from harvest to harvest; a darker jar is not a difference in quality, but simply the signature of that year in the forest.

💬 Frequently asked questions
-
Is the 1 kg jar worth it price-wise?+Usually yes – the price per kilo is lowest with the large size. You can see the current prices of all three sizes directly on the product pages.
-
Isn't a whole kilo too much?+Honey is among the foods with a very long shelf life, as long as the jar is well sealed and stored properly. A kilo does not need to be used up quickly – and with daily honey on the table, it empties faster than you would think.
-
Does the large jar crystallise faster?+No – whether and when honey crystallises depends on its composition, not on the jar size. Should it set after a longer time, a water bath of no more than 40 °C gently liquefies it again.
-
Is the kilo jar a good gift?+For true honey lovers, certainly – though for a small present most people prefer the smaller sizes. The kilo is the choice for your own pantry.
-
Does every kilo jar taste the same?+Not exactly – as an unadulterated natural product, each harvest year carries its own note, depending on what the forest provided. That very diversity is what sets beekeeper's honey apart from standardised industrial goods.
