This is where the special extract comes in. Through a multi-stage process — using water and ethanol as the extraction solvents — the leaf compounds are bundled at a 50:1 ratio. The result is a standardised extract in which the two key compound groups, flavone glycosides and ginkgolide terpene lactones, are present in fixed amounts. What does the 50:1 extract ratio mean?
The ratio describes how strongly the leaves have been concentrated. At 50:1, one part of extract holds the compounds from 50 parts of dried leaf material. So for the 75 mg per capsule, around fifty times that amount of raw leaf is processed. That makes the extract far richer than plain leaf powder.
Why are flavone glycosides and terpene lactones listed separately?
These are the two compound groups by which the quality of a ginkgo extract is measured. Because both are stated in fixed amounts — 18.4 mg and 4.9 mg per capsule — the extract is standardised. You get the same content in every batch, not a fluctuating natural value.
