Why L-carnitine L-tartrate?
L-carnitine L-tartrate is a compound of L-carnitine and tartaric acid, a natural fruit acid. The advantage lies in processing: pure L-carnitine strongly attracts water, which makes it difficult to fill into capsules in a stable way. As a tartrate, the active substance stays dry and free-flowing. In the body, the compound separates again — leaving free L-carnitine.
What happens during fatty acid transport in detail?
Long-chain fatty acids cannot cross the inner mitochondrial membrane on their own. They are bound to carnitine and shuttled through the membrane as so-called acyl-carnitine — biochemists call this the carnitine shuttle. Inside, the carnitine is split off again and is ready for the next transport. It is precisely this carrier function that gives L-carnitine its designation as a biocarrier.

No. The intake recommendation does not tie the capsules to meals — what matters is swallowing them with plenty of liquid.

Why is there no nutrient reference value (NRV)?+
The EU has not yet established a nutrient reference value for L-carnitine. Unlike with vitamins, no percentage of a recommended daily intake can therefore be stated. The note below the nutrient table is required by law.

What is the magnesium stearate in the ingredient list for?+
Magnesium stearate is an anti-caking agent. It keeps the powder from clumping during capsule production and allows even dosing. It is an additive authorised in the EU.
