Dry, hard-working hands? Coconut oil care that makes them soft again
Kräuterhaus Coconut Oil Hand Cream pairs organic coconut oil, shea butter and cocoa butter with urea, sugars and amino acids in a fast-absorbing, lightly scented cream. 50 ml pump dispenser, made in Germany.
Hands are busy all day: at work, around the house, in the garden, with frequent washing, cold air and wind on top. Dry hands are usually answered with oils and butters. That helps for a while, but the tight feeling often returns after the next wash, because what the skin actually lost was not oil. It was the small, water-loving molecules that keep the outer layer hydrated.
This cream takes a different route. It replenishes exactly those molecules (urea, sugars and free amino acids) and then seals them in with coconut oil, shea butter and cocoa butter. The emulsifiers are sugar esters, which is why the texture spreads thinly and absorbs quickly rather than sitting on the skin. Tocopherol and ascorbyl palmitate keep the plant oils fresh inside the bottle.
Kräuterhaus makes the cream in Germany and fills it into a 50 ml pump dispenser. One press delivers a measured dose without fingers dipping into a jar, which is why it tends to live next to the kitchen sink or on the desk rather than in the bathroom cabinet.
Hand cream. Apply to the hands as needed.

Why put sugars and amino acids in a hand cream?
The outermost skin layer keeps itself hydrated with a blend called the natural moisturising factor, or NMF. A large share of it is free amino acids, alongside urea, lactate, sugars and mineral salts. Frequent washing rinses part of this blend away, and oil alone does not replace it. A cream that carries the same building blocks can top it up from the outside. That is the logic behind the urea, glucose, fructose, alanine, aspartic acid and glutamic acid in this formula, and it is what the phrase "matched to the skin's water-binding capacity" refers to.

💬 Frequently asked questions
-
Is it greasy? I need to type straight after applying it.+The formula is built to absorb quickly: it is a light, water-based emulsion and the emulsifiers are sugar-based, so the cream spreads thinly. Rub a small amount in until it disappears and give it a moment. A keyboard, a steering wheel or a phone screen should be fine after that.
-
How much urea is in it?+Kräuterhaus does not publish a percentage. Urea is one component of a complex with sugars and amino acids, so think of it as part of a moisture complex rather than a 5 % or 10 % urea treatment. If you are after a high-dose urea cream for very rough skin, this is not that product. If you want an everyday coconut cream with a broad set of humectants, it is.
-
Does it smell like sun cream?+No. The scent is fresh coconut rather than the heavy, sweet note many people associate with holiday lotions. It comes from the coconut oil itself plus a fragrance. The ingredient list shows "Parfum" only, with no individually declared fragrance allergens above the labelling threshold.
-
Is the cream vegan?+Kräuterhaus does not label it as vegan, so neither do we. Nothing on the ingredient list is obviously animal-derived, but lecithin and glycerin can come from either plant or animal sources and the manufacturer has not specified which.
-
Pump dispenser or tube: what is the practical difference?+A pump gives the same portion every time and can be used one-handed, which matters when the other hand is wet or holding something. It stands upright on a shelf and nothing gets squeezed out by accident in a bag. The 50 ml size is small enough for a desk drawer. If you want a hand cream in a tube from the same brand, look at the Kräuterhaus Hand Nourishing Cream.
