Question about item
15 strains. One capsule. Hand-encapsulated in Austria.
anatis Lactobac brings together 15 carefully selected strains of lactobacilli and bifidobacteria with 230 mg of acacia fibre powder inside a gastro-resistant, plant-based cellulose capsule.
The microbiome has long moved out of the research lab and into everyday conversation — books, podcasts, doctors' appointments. Anyone who looks more closely soon notices that probiotic supplements are anything but interchangeable. Strain variety, viable cell counts at the point of production, and whether the capsule actually reaches the intestine — these are the things that separate a label promise from a traceable product.
This is where Lactobac comes in. Inside the plant-based, gastro-resistant capsule sits a blend of 15 different bacterial strains — lactobacilli traditionally associated with the small intestine, bifidobacteria with the colon. Alongside them: acacia fibre powder (gum arabic), a water-soluble fibre from the resin of the acacia tree that human digestive enzymes cannot break down and that is fermented further along the gut by the resident microbiota.
Anatis has been producing in Mogersdorf in southern Burgenland for decades and encapsulates by hand — no magnesium stearate as a flow agent, no titanium dioxide as a colourant. The Lactobacillus acidophilus DDS®-1 in the blend is supplied by UAS Laboratories in Wisconsin, USA, and is one of the most thoroughly documented Lactobacillus strains worldwide; in-vitro studies show its resistance to gastric acid and bile salts in digestion-simulation models.
Take 1×1 or 2×1 capsule with liquid. Daily dose: 1–2 capsules.

Why a gastro-resistant casing?
Viable bacterial cultures are sensitive to heat and acid. The capsule shell is made from hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) and is designed to dissolve further along the digestive tract — so the contents are protected from the acidic environment of the stomach. The shell is plant-based and contains no gelatine, which makes the product suitable for vegan diets.
What does the acacia fibre do here?
Acacia fibre — also known as gum arabic — comes from the resin of the acacia tree and consists of arabinogalactans, long-chain soluble polysaccharides. Human digestive enzymes cannot break them down; they are fermented further along the gut by the resident microbiota. In nutritional research, acacia fibre is described as well tolerated — it binds water without becoming strongly viscous and is counted among the more slowly fermentable soluble fibres.
Pairs well from the anatis range
If you want to round out the Lactobac concept with classic immune and vital-substance support, viterna customers often pair it with anatis Acerola with Zinc (90 capsules) for natural vitamin C and zinc — or with the anatis Organic Agaricus Mushroom (90 capsules) from certified organic cultivation.

💬 Frequently asked questions
-
How do I take Lactobac?+1×1 or 2×1 capsule with enough liquid — exactly as stated on the tin. No specific time of day is prescribed; a steady rhythm simply makes it easier to stick with.
-
Which 15 strains are in the blend?+Four Bifidobacterium species (animalis ssp. lactis, bifidum, breve, longum), nine Lactobacillus species (acidophilus, casei, helveticus, plantarum, reuteri, rhamnosus, gasseri, delbrueckii ssp. bulgaricus, paracasei), Streptococcus thermophilus and additionally Lactobacillus acidophilus DDS®-1 as the 15th strain.
-
Are the capsules vegan and allergen-free?+Yes. The capsule shell is made from plant-based hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, not animal gelatine. The product contains no lactose, no gluten, no wheat, no soy, no yeast and no egg. There is also no added sugar.
-
Why refrigerate after opening?+Bacterial cultures are sensitive to heat and moisture. A steady temperature between 2 and 8 °C keeps the cultures stable for the whole use period. Before opening, a cool, dry cupboard is enough.
-
What is the DDS®-1 strain?+DDS®-1 is a trademarked Lactobacillus acidophilus strain from UAS Laboratories LLC. It has been documented in research and practice for more than four decades; in-vitro studies show its resistance to gastric acid and bile salts in digestion-simulation models. Anatis uses this strain under licence.
-
How long does one tin last?+At 1 capsule a day, the 60-piece pack lasts two months. At 2 capsules, one month. The tin is made from a renewable raw material and is free from harmful substances.
