Wüstensalz LUT

The desert Lut is 166.000 km² large and surrounded by huge mountain massifs. The Zagros Mountains in the north-west are almost half as large as the whole of Persia, the Elburs Mountains in the north is home to the more than 5671 meters high Damavand, the highest mountain in Persia. To the east, the mountain ranges of Afghanistan and Pakistan are bordered. The huge mountain ranges keep moist air masses, so that the desert Lut has developed into one of the most extreme deserts in the world. Temperatures up to 70 degrees Celsius have already been measured. People and camels can only survive on the edge of this desert. At the southeast end of the desert Lut lies the town of Zahedan-from there the desert salt is ready for further transport.
