Description

The companion of frankincense

Indigo Myrrh is the resin of the myrrh tree from Ethiopia and Somalia. Its scent is warm, balsamic and earthy-spicy, its colour reddish brown to black.

🟤
Warm, balsamic, earthy-spicy
Myrrh smells deeper and earthier than frankincense, with a slightly bitter, spicy note.
🌍
From Ethiopia and Somalia
The resin comes from the thorny myrrh tree (Commiphora) in the dry regions of East Africa. Reddish brown pieces are considered the better quality.
♀️
Assigned to the feminine
In incense tradition myrrh stands for Mother Earth and the feminine, frankincense for the masculine. Together they are regarded as a classic pair.

Gold, frankincense and myrrh: myrrh is one of the oldest incense materials of all. Even in antiquity it was precious and was used, among other things, for embalming.

Its name goes back to a Greek legend: the girl Myrrha was turned into a tree by the gods, and her tears are the bitter resin. Myrrh does indeed taste very bitter.

Indigo uses myrrh in many blends wherever an earthy, feminine note is wanted. Burned on its own it suits times of change in the home, for example after a move or renovation. Indigo fills it in 30 g jars.

📋 How to use

Hold the incense charcoal with tongs over a flame to light it and place it on shell sand in a fireproof vessel. Let it glow for about 15 minutes until it is covered with white ash. Then add one or two small pieces of myrrh with an incense spoon. Enjoy the scent as if smelling a flower, do not inhale it. If it starts to smell burnt, lift the remains off with the spoon and smother them in the sand.
