Vital Chlorine Dioxide Solution CDL/CDS is a ready-to-use solution with < 0.3% chlorine dioxide for drinking-water disinfection – supplied with a dosing pipette and made in Germany.
A water tank in the motorhome, the canister on board, the supply from a well – once water sits for a while, life starts growing in it. Biofilm forms on tank walls, microbes multiply in warm pipes. And you can't see any of it in the water.
This is where chlorine dioxide comes in. The gas, dissolved in water, oxidises the cell envelope of microorganisms and has been used in municipal drinking-water treatment for decades. Unlike conventional chlorine, it barely reacts with organic matter – one reason many waterworks have switched to it.
Behind the product stands vitalundfitmit100 GmbH from Jüchen, one of the long-established manufacturers in the German-speaking market. After an EU approval process lasting more than nine years, strict requirements now apply to ready-made solutions, and many suppliers are withdrawing from the market. Water disinfection: DE: 0.67 ml, AT: 1.33 ml of chlorine dioxide solution per 10 litres of water. Contact time: 20 minutes. If required, the application may be repeated after 24 hours at the earliest. Shock disinfection: 20 ml of chlorine dioxide solution per 10 litres of tank volume. Contact time: 6–12 hours. 20 drops from the enclosed pipette equal 1 ml.

Why does the label state different dosages for Germany and Austria?
The permitted addition of chlorine dioxide to drinking water is regulated nationally – in Austria the limit is twice as high as in Germany. The dosage reflects exactly that: in 10 litres of water, the DE amount yields around 0.2 mg of chlorine dioxide per litre, the AT amount around 0.4 mg. Simply use the figure for your country.
Why amber glass instead of a plastic bottle?
Chlorine dioxide is light-sensitive – UV wavelengths accelerate the breakdown of the dissolved gas. Amber glass filters out precisely that range and is also gas-tight and chemically inert. Through plastic, by contrast, chlorine dioxide can escape over time. Ready-made solutions will therefore only be bottled in amber glass in future; HDPE bottles are being phased out as remaining stock.

How do I disinfect the water tank in my motorhome or boat?+That's what the shock disinfection is for. The dosage in the directions box is given in 10-litre steps and scales to any tank size. After the contact time, continue using the tank as usual or drain the water – depending on how you run your system.

What is the difference between CDS and CDL?+There is none – they are two names for the same thing. CDS stands for "Chlorine Dioxide Solution", CDL for the German "Chlordioxidlösung". Both mean chlorine dioxide gas dissolved in water.

What does "activation" mean – and why is it not needed here?+With two-component kits, chlorine dioxide only forms when sodium chlorite and an activator are combined – with waiting time and room for dosing errors. In the ready-made solution, that reaction is already complete. You simply draw off the amount you need.

Why should the bottle be chilled for 1 hour before first use?+Chlorine dioxide is a dissolved gas. The colder the solution, the better it stays bound in the water. A chilled bottle releases less gas when opened – the concentration is preserved and the typical odour is weaker.

Does the treated water taste of chlorine?+At the water-disinfection dosage, at most a faint odour is noticeable, and it dissipates. Unlike conventional chlorine, chlorine dioxide barely forms chlorinated by-products that shape the taste – one reason waterworks use it.
