🏆
A Robert Franz classic
One of the best-known items in the Naturversand range — unchanged in formulation for years.

Anyone eating grapes either swallows the seeds or spits them out. Yet inside those small hard kernels sits much of what makes grapes botanically so interesting — a dense layer of polyphenols. Reaching meaningful amounts through the fruit alone is, in practice, difficult.

This is where the concentrate comes in. A gentle extraction process turns the seeds into a high-percentage polyphenol powder. Oligomeric proanthocyanidins — OPC for short — are the subgroup most extensively described in research. They sit within the flavonoid family and shield the seed when the sun hits the vine. In Robert Franz OPC 65 the OPC content reaches 65 % of the extract — a comparatively high concentration, hence the "65" in the name.

OPC was discovered in 1948 at the University of Bordeaux by pharmacologist Jack Masquelier — first in peanut skins, later in pine bark and grape seeds. His 1951 patent still underpins standardised OPC extracts today. Robert Franz brought the topic to the German-speaking world and made OPC 65 a long-standing classic of the Naturversand range.

Ingredients: Polyphenol-containing grape seed extract, glazing agent: hydroxypropyl methylcellulose.

Net quantity: 60 capsules = 26.79 g

What does the "65" in the name stand for?

The number marks the OPC share of the grape seed polyphenol powder: 65 % of the extract consists of oligomeric proanthocyanidins. With 350 mg of extract per capsule that works out to 227.5 mg of OPC. At two capsules a day, you reach 455 mg. The remainder of the extract is made up of further natural companion compounds from the seed itself.

Why take it shortly after a meal?

Plant polyphenols travel through the digestive tract differently when taken with dietary fat than on an empty stomach. The manufacturer's "shortly after a meal" guidance creates a gentler transit and ties the supplement to a natural daily routine.

⚠️ Mandatory notice: Food supplements are not a substitute for a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Do not exceed the recommended daily intake.

📦 Storage: Keep out of reach of young children, store in a cool and dry place. Best before / batch: see base of jar.

💬 Frequently asked questions

  • What exactly is OPC?+
OPC stands for oligomeric proanthocyanidins — a group of secondary plant compounds in the flavonoid family, which in turn belong to the polyphenols. They occur naturally in grape seeds, pine bark and peanut skins. They were discovered in 1948 by French pharmacologist Jack Masquelier at the University of Bordeaux.
  • Is Robert Franz OPC 65 suitable for vegans?+
The capsule shell is made of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, a plant cellulose. The contents are grape seed extract. There are no animal-derived components.
  • How long does one jar last?+
At 1 capsule per day a jar lasts 60 days — roughly two months. At 2 capsules a day it lasts 30 days.
  • Does OPC 65 contain sugar, gluten or allergens?+
The ingredient list contains only grape seed extract and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose as glazing agent. No flavourings, preservatives or colourings are added.
  • Can I combine OPC with other Robert Franz products?+
OPC 65 is often taken alongside other items from the Naturversand range — typically Vitamin D3 drops, Vitamin K2 drops or Magnesium Complex 8-fold. As OPC is neither a vitamin nor a mineral, there is no NRV overlap with other supplements.
