Cortisol is produced in the adrenal cortex and follows a clear daily rhythm — a high morning peak followed by a continuous decline towards evening. Seven saliva samples document this curve; the first three are pooled by the lab into the morning value. The result shows whether your cortisol pattern across the day matches the physiological rhythm — or deviates from it.

Saliva samples are collected on one day following this schedule:
Sample 1: immediately after waking up (transparent tube)

Why is cortisol measured in saliva?
Saliva contains only the free, biologically active cortisol — the fraction that actually acts in tissues. A blood test, by contrast, usually captures total cortisol, including the portion bound to transport proteins. Saliva collection also works at home in a calm setting, which matters: the sampling itself shouldn't cause stress, since that would distort the measured value.
What happens after you send the samples?
Samples travel to GANZIMMUN Diagnostics in the pre-paid shipping envelope. The lab determines cortisol at each measurement point individually — the first three results form the pooled morning value. The written report lists each value alongside its reference range. After 5–7 working days the report is available online in the customer portal, accessed with the serial and code numbers from your sample request form.

Results serve solely as a basis for individual therapy after consultation with a doctor or therapist — they are not a medical diagnosis. Reimbursement by private health insurance is not guaranteed in every case; clarification with your insurance provider before purchase is recommended. Shipping is available only within Austria and Germany.
📦 Storage & shipping: Store saliva samples at 2–8 °C in the refrigerator after collection, for a maximum of one day. Collect and dispatch samples on the same day. Shipping from Germany Monday to Thursday, from Austria Monday to Wednesday, not before weekends or public holidays. At outdoor temperatures above 25 °C or below −20 °C, do not drop the package in a letterbox — hand it in at a post office instead.

Who is the Stress Profile Test for?+
According to the manufacturer, the examination is useful for patients with physical or mental stress or states of exhaustion. Indications include sleep disorders, listlessness, burnout, depressive mood and concentration problems. The test does not replace a medical examination — it provides measurement values which should be discussed with a doctor or therapist.

Can I use the test from Austria?+
Yes. The test is intended for use in Austria and Germany. From Austria, samples should be sent Monday to Wednesday — not before public holidays — so they reach the partner laboratory in Mainz in time. The shipping envelope is pre-paid.

How quickly will I get the report?+
Once samples arrive at the laboratory, analysis usually takes 5–7 working days. The report is automatically sent by post if all personal details on the sample request form are filled in. In parallel, online retrieval is available via the customer portal using your serial number, code and date of birth.

What should I avoid before sampling?+
For 30 minutes before each sample: no eating, drinking, tooth brushing, chewing gum or mouthwash. If you can't avoid it, rinse your mouth thoroughly with cold water 5 minutes before sampling. Do not collect samples if you have visible inflammation or injuries in the mouth — this prevents contamination of saliva with blood. Rinse with plain water right before the sample.

Will my health insurance cover the cost?+
Public statutory health insurance does not reimburse this test. With private health insurance, coverage is not guaranteed in every case — checking with your provider in advance is sensible. The receipt and report are suitable for submission.

What if my values are abnormal?+
Each measurement point in the report comes with its value, reference range and a short written assessment. Abnormal values alone do not constitute a diagnosis. Interpretation and any next steps require a conversation with a doctor, naturopath or therapist — for legal reasons, therapy recommendations may only be sent by the laboratory to qualified professionals.
