When something comes to an end and you want to take your time
Farewell (original name: Abschied) is a herbal, spicy incense blend by Indigo from Vienna. It is meant for transitions in which the good things may stay.
We often link farewell only with death. Yet we say goodbye all the time: to a flat, a job, a phase of life, a habit. Some of it does not happen overnight.
Indigo distinguishes between letting go and saying farewell. Farewell is more personal and may be gentler. The blend is meant as a ritual for this transition: looking back, keeping the good things and being able to say “Yes, that is how it was, and it is good.”
Like all Indigo blends, Farewell is blended by hand in Vienna, following traditional and its own recipes since 1991.
Hold the incense charcoal with tongs over a flame to light it and place it on shell sand in a fireproof vessel. Let it glow for about 15 minutes until it is covered with white ash. Then add 1 to 2 pinches with an incense spoon. Enjoy the scent as if smelling a flower, do not inhale it. If it starts to smell burnt, lift the remains off with the spoon and smother them in the sand.

💬 Frequently asked questions
-
Is Farewell only meant for grief?+No. Indigo thinks of any kind of transition: a move, a change of job, the end of a relationship or a phase of life. It is about bringing things to a close, not only about grieving.
-
What is the difference to Letting Go?+Letting Go is a separate Indigo blend, meant to make room for something new. Farewell is more personal and puts keeping the good memories at its centre.
-
What does the blend smell like?+Menthol and sage bring a cool, herbal freshness right at the start. The resins give the scent its woody depth.
-
How often should I burn Farewell?+That is up to you. Indigo reminds us that a farewell takes its time. You can also burn the blend over several evenings, with a small pinch each time.
