For many women it starts quietly in their late thirties or early forties. The period arrives after 24 days one month and 35 the next. Sleep gets lighter, patience shorter, and the scales move although nothing about the food has changed. Others know the topic from the opposite direction: pregnancy does not happen, PMS gets worse every month. Almost always someone says "that's just hormones". But which ones, and in which direction?
That is exactly the question a profile answers better than a single value. Oestradiol and progesterone belong together, because their ratio in the second half of the cycle shapes cycle stability and how you feel. DHEA and testosterone show how much reserve the adrenal glands still deliver. And cortisol often explains why the sex hormones drift out of balance: chronic stress draws on the same raw-material pool. 1. Collect the samples: On cycle days 19 to 21, give saliva through the straw into the numbered tube right after waking, then again 30 and 60 minutes later. Preparation details and the exact sequence are in the instructions for use (PDF, German).
2. Send them in: Place the tubes in the protective container, add the completed sample form, and post everything in the prepaid return envelope.
3. Receive your report: Result after 4 to 7 working days via medivere's online results portal.

Why saliva rather than blood?
Steroid hormones are fat-soluble and, in blood, more than 90 percent of them are bound to transport proteins such as SHBG and albumin. Bound, they cannot enter a cell. Only the free share diffuses into saliva, which is the fraction that actually acts in tissue. A blood value within range and a low saliva value are therefore not necessarily a contradiction: they measure different things. Add the practical side: saliva can be collected at home, without stress and at the right time of day, which matters especially for cortisol.
How does this differ from the Hormone Profile Women without "Plus"?
The basic profile measures oestradiol, oestriol and progesterone. The Plus version adds DHEA, testosterone and cortisol. That pays off when exhaustion, lack of drive or chronic stress are part of the picture, because then the cause often lies not with the sex hormones alone but in the adrenal glands. If you already know your cycle hormones and only want to see the stress axis, medivere offers separate cortisol tests. For a first overall picture, the Plus profile is the more complete choice.

Who is the test for?+
Women who want to know where their hormones currently stand: with an irregular cycle or PMS, in perimenopause and menopause, with sleep problems, exhaustion and mood swings, or as a first orientation when trying to conceive. Also as a follow-up when you are already changing something and want to see whether it shows in the values.

I no longer have a cycle. When do I collect the samples?+
After menopause or without a cycle you can collect on any day; what matters is the morning with its three time points. With a cycle, days 19 to 21 apply, counted from the first day of your last period. The instructions for use describe both cases.

What do I need to keep in mind before collecting saliva?+
The first sample comes right after waking, before brushing your teeth, coffee or breakfast; the second and third 30 and 60 minutes later. What is allowed during that hour and how to proceed with hormone preparations, creams or supplements is explained in the instructions for use linked above (German). Read them the evening before and the morning runs smoothly.

How do I receive my report?+
Through medivere's online results portal, usually 4 to 7 working days after the lab receives your samples. The report shows all six values with reference ranges and an interpretation; the layout matches the sample report linked above. Please note the report is issued in German. You can print it and take it to your practice.

Why is the test sold to Austria and Germany only?+
The samples have to reach the laboratory in Mainz promptly using the enclosed return envelope. The kit is designed for that postal route from Austria and Germany. From other countries we can offer neither shipping nor analysis.

My values are out of range. What now?+
Take the report to your gynaecologist or an endocrinology practice. They will clarify whether further values such as FSH, LH or thyroid function belong in the picture and which steps suit you. Adding or stopping hormones on your own is not a good idea. With six values in hand, that conversation becomes far more concrete.
