Question about item
Two fatty acids, one percentage: what your omega-3 intake actually adds up to
Guessing how much EPA and DHA reaches your blood is hard. This home test kit from medivere turns it into a single lab-measured figure.
Prick your fingertip with the lancet, place drops of blood on the sample card, fill in the sample form and post the sealed card to the lab in the envelope provided. The instructions walk you through every step.

Salmon once a month, an algae oil capsule every morning, sardines when you remember. Food diaries rarely tell you much here, because fish species and supplements differ widely in how much EPA and DHA they deliver.
Researchers William S. Harris and Clemens von Schacky introduced the term omega-3 index in 2004. In studies it is measured in red blood cells, which live for about 120 days, so the value reflects the past weeks rather than yesterday's dinner. A single fish meal barely moves it. That stability is what makes it useful as a before-and-after benchmark.

💬 Frequently asked questions
-
What counts as a good omega-3 index?+What counts is the reference range the lab states in your report. Scientific literature names 8 to 11 % as the target range for measurements in red blood cells; values from other methods are not always directly comparable. The sample report above shows how your result is presented. For advice on your own value, talk to your doctor or nutrition adviser.
-
I'm vegan and take algae oil. Is the test useful for me?+Yes. The lab measures EPA and DHA regardless of their source, so you see whether your algae oil shows up in your blood.
-
How soon should I test again?+After changing your diet or supplement routine, wait around three to four months. Before that, the value has usually not fully adjusted.
-
Does the test also cover omega-6?+The focus is on EPA and DHA. Check the linked sample report to see exactly which values your report will contain.
-
Can I order from Switzerland or the UK?+No. This test is only available for customers in Austria and Germany.
