Bitter plants used to be a fixture of the European herbal tradition — from monastery gardens to the everyday table. Today we meet them less often. The Espara essence picks up that thread and brings four classic bitter plants together in a single liquid preparation.
In the bottle, distillates of artichoke, milk thistle, dandelion and curcuma sit in equal parts. The plant components are processed according to a method going back to Paracelsus — the procedure separates the individual fractions, works them separately and recombines them into a single aromatic, alcoholic liquid. The drops are taken under the tongue or with a little water.
Paracelsus (1493–1541) thought of alchemy not as gold-making but as a methodical process for preparing plant substances. His concept: a plant has body, spirit and soul — three components that are first separated and then reunited during processing. What are alchemical essences according to Paracelsus?
Paracelsus (1493–1541) thought of alchemy not as gold-making but as a method for preparing plant substances. His idea: a plant has — in his words — body, spirit and soul. These three components are separated during processing, treated individually and then recombined. The result is an aromatic, alcoholic liquid that, in the Paracelsian view, addresses the human being as a whole. What does "Compositum" mean in this product name?
"Compositum" is Latin and simply means "composed". Within the Espara range, the word distinguishes multi-plant essences from mono-essences, which contain only a single plant. In Artichoke Compositum, the artichoke that gives the product its name is one of four plants — alongside milk thistle, dandelion and curcuma, each at one quarter.
