Seven plants in one bottle — an alchemical essence in the Paracelsus tradition
A drop essence by Espara made from seven plant distillates — echinacea, barberry, elecampane, rose hip, thuja, nettle and wild garlic. Prepared according to the alchemical method that traces back to Paracelsus.
Anyone looking for plant-based drops today often wants more than a single extract. The interest has shifted toward compositions — several plants, carefully combined, the way old monastery pharmacies used to work. Echinacea is familiar to almost everyone. But elecampane, barberry and wild garlic in the same bottle? That is less common.
Espara prepares this composition using a multi-step method that sits in the Paracelsus tradition. Each of the seven plants is distilled separately, then the distillates are combined into the finished essence. The alcohol content of 16 % vol serves as the carrier liquid and helps to convey the aromas. You take the drops the classical way — under the tongue or diluted in a little water.
Espara has been developing alchemical essences using this method for decades, and the range is well established in pharmacies and specialist shops. The Echinacea Compositum blend pairs the North-American purple coneflower with six plants long used in the central European plant tradition.
Take 15 drops twice a day before meals — apply directly under the tongue or take in a little water. (30 ml correspond to approximately 530 drops.)

What are alchemical essences in the Paracelsus tradition?
Paracelsus (1493–1541) did not see alchemy as gold-making but as a method for preparing concentrated plant preparations. His idea: a plant has — in his words — body, spirit and soul. These three parts are separated during preparation, processed individually and then reunited. The result is an aromatic, alcoholic liquid that, according to Paracelsus, addresses the human being as a whole. The seven plants — a brief introduction
Echinacea (purple coneflower) originally comes from North America and is today a familiar garden plant in Europe. Barberry is a native shrub with strikingly yellow wood and small red berries. Elecampane belongs to the daisy family and has long-standing roots in the central European plant tradition. Rose hip is the fruit of the dog rose, thuja the needled white cedar, nettle the widespread wild plant, and wild garlic the woodland allium of spring. Seven plants, one composition.

💬 Frequently asked questions
-
How do I take the drops?+15 drops twice a day before meals. The classical way is directly under the tongue — let the drops sit there for a moment, then swallow. To soften the aromas, simply add the drops to a sip of water or unsweetened tea.
-
What does the essence taste like?+Herbal, plant-forward, slightly bitter. The echinacea note is clear, with nettle and wild garlic in the background. The alcohol (16 % vol) brings the aromas to the front — diluting in water softens that impression noticeably.
-
How long does a 30 ml bottle last?+One bottle contains roughly 530 drops. At the suggested intake of 2 × 15 drops per day this gives about 17 to 18 days. The exact range depends on drop size and how the pipette is handled.
-
What does Paracelsus mean by "body, spirit and soul" of a plant?+Three parts that are separated in the alchemical process and brought back together at the end: the aromatic (spirit), the soluble (soul) and the solid (body). The full background and process steps are described in our article on the preparation and use of essences.
-
Which Espara products work well alongside this essence?+If you would like to combine the essence with further Espara products, viterna also stocks Espara Immune-strong capsules and Espara Acerola Vitamin C chewable tablets. Both contain vitamin C — and vitamin C contributes to the normal function of the immune system.
-
Is the essence vegan, gluten-free and lactose-free?+Yes. The recipe is vegan, gluten-free and lactose-free — it contains only plant distillates and alcohol as the carrier liquid. No animal ingredients, no added flavourings, no sweeteners.
