Cleansed properly – yet no tight, dry feeling afterwards
Hay Flower Soap is a superfatting bar soap from the Kräuterhaus's own soap manufactory – with dried hay flower blossoms worked right into the bar.
Plenty of bar soaps clean well but leave the skin feeling dry and tight afterwards. Anyone with sensitive skin knows that pulled feeling after washing their hands.
That is exactly what this recipe addresses. During production a little more fat is used than saponification needs – the surplus stays in the bar as a refatting layer. Glycerin is part of it too, drawing moisture to the skin's surface. So the bar cleanses and leaves a caring film on the skin at the same time.
The soaps are made in the in-house manufactory in Bad Ditzenbach – first meant only for the factory shop, now a fixed part of the range. Kräuterhaus Sanct Bernhard has been making plant-based natural cosmetics since 1903.
Work the soap into a lather with warm water, apply to hands and body, then rinse off with water.

Why doesn't this soap dry out the skin?
A classic soap forms when fat and lye react into soap – a process called saponification. If a little more fat is used on purpose, some of it stays in the bar as oil. This refatting layer settles onto the skin as a fine film while you wash. The glycerin in the bar additionally binds moisture at the skin's surface. Together, the two leave skin feeling cared for rather than parched after washing.
What are the hay flowers in the soap for?
Hay flowers are the dried blossoms and seeds of meadow plants. In this soap they are visibly worked in, giving the bar its typical speckled look. Above all they carry the fresh, slightly herby scent of a freshly mown summer meadow. Some customers even keep the bar in their linen cupboard until they use it.

How do I make the bar last longer?+Place the bar on a draining soap dish after washing so it can dry between uses. That stops it going soft and keeps it firm for longer.
