Ashvagandha is a low bush and growing in temperate zones up to 5000 m above sea level. It thrives in India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan and other Asian countries. It is found in much of Africa and called also "Indian ginseng". Himalaya Ashvagandha is reducing vata and kapha dosha.
Ashvagandha contains various alkaloids such as anahygrin, anaferin, cuscohygrin, nicotine, tropin, withasomnin and withanolides (steroidlactone) such as somniferanolid, somniwithanolid, withaferin A and withasomniferanolid.
